Welfare Benefits

The IOWLC has two specialist welfare benefit practitioners who can cover the

full range of benefit issues, and includes representation at tribunals.

They specialise in helping people to challenge unfair decisions about their

benefits.

Eligibility criteria

The current eligibility criteria for getting assistance from a specialist welfare

benefit practitioner is the following:

  • Your benefit issue is part of ongoing housing case work e.g. Housing Benefit backdate.

  • Supporting People referral from the Local Authority.

Because of current demand, and funding restrictions, welfare benefit cases can only be conducted if they are made by formal referral from the Supporting People team, but this may change, and this website will be updated.
